I consider myself a bioinorganic chemist. Students in my laboratory synthesize and characterize coordination complexes in an attempt to understand and mimic the fascinating reactivity found in metalloproteins; our research in recent years has focused in particular on the role of second-coordination sphere hydrogen bonds in directing reactivity of small molecules bound to metal ions in coordination complexes or proteins.
